Mainstream Living Receives AED Donation from Iowa Heart Center Foundation

The Iowa Heart Center Foundation awarded an Automated External Defribillator (AED) to Mainstream Living. The device will be placed at the Residential Care Facility for Persons with Mental Illness which provides residential and community support services to 11 adults. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) strikes more than 350,000 Americans each year — nearly one death every two minutes. Giving CPR and using an automated external defibrillator (AED) early nearly doubles the chance of survival. For each minute without such treatment, the chance of survival decreases 7–10 percent. Persons with disabilities and mental illness are often at higher risk for cardiac events. Mainstream Living staff will be trained in utilizing the device in the case of an emergency.
